Are we big in France?
Tom Waits, of course, is big in Japan. I haven't looked at the numbers. I am pretty confident that UR is not big in Japan. (Which is not actually a foreign country, but an alien planet. To paraphrase Wittgenstein: if a Japanese could speak, we would not understand him. This is the highest praise I can imagine for a nation which has actually retained some few scraps of its cultural integrity.)
Big? Big? Are we big anywhere? Alas, neighbors, UR or anything like it is a marginal product - peddled openly only among a small and unstable fringe of neo-Victorian extremists. Reactionary steampunk politics will never, ever be big. It will certainly never sell out to Hollywood!
That said, here is a (bad) picture of me in French. Wonderfully if predictably, in French, which I don't know, I am a liberal:
http://www.wikiberal.org/wiki/Mencius_Moldbug
One could perhaps simplify this by noting, with props to René Rémond, that the correct French translation of "formalism" is no more than legitimisme. I also think anyone unfortunate enough to be trapped in the wreck of a nation that once was France could improve their understanding of 20th-century history through the memoirs of Paul Baudouin and Sisley Huddleston.
Comments in French only, please. If you don't have anything to talk about in French, why not talk about Taine's Origines? Any educated Frenchman will have at least read Taine, n'est ce pas? Dear gods, Planet Three has really gone to the dogs...

Napoléon était nain
J'estime beaucoup ce Taine.
If you're "big" in Japan, it's probably just me.
Anyway, you have to love the word "blogeuer". Sounds sophisticated!
The French, vilest of societies. How like to us!
Tsst, tsst, I am very disappointed...
I have never liked the idea of the government being a.. BUSINESS, since business involves being "busy", and I have better things to do with my time than being busy...
I seriously doubt that the French, most of them, at least, can comprehend your positions, Mencius, witness all the.. "isms" liberally larded into the article.
Nothing like tacking on "ism" at the end of an already dry and dusty substantive to "achèver", or finish off, if you like, a word, and the idea behind it.
I think I have probably already said here that the U.S. was ? has been ? the ultimate Enlightenment experiment, thus the future of the 50 now disunited States represents a great... investment for French society, as the institutionalized continuation of the ever rolling on French Revolution.
Mencius big in France ?
Jean François Copé is gaining ground, and Marine Le Pen will cash in ;-) the next election.. probably.
We shall see...
But, please... let's try to.. undersell the idolatry of filthy lucre a little bit.
Mammon lacks class.
By the way.. poupinette is French for Debra... ;-)
Mrs. Hyde, if you like...
And frankly, I am not a big fan of construction, either. Look how much green is being destroyed in our constructions...
A little bit of pedaling in the sauerkraut would do us some good, and constitute an excellent antidote to all that good intentioned, ambitious activism we are drunk on...

I'l switche too engliche for ourr esteeemèd host.
I hope you'r aware zat in French, a "liberal" eez pretty muche what you'd call a "libertarian", and zat zey're sufficiently reviled by ze rest zat zey won't lose much by associating with such figures as yourself.
Note also zat ze wiki page does not describe you as a "libéral", but as "influences by liberian ideas", which seems pretty accurate.
I'm curious, does your blog get a lot of visits from France? Zere are certainly ozers zan me, but how many? ...
Nice post! Very informative and interesting.

would cosplay moldbug be big in japan?
J'aime les chats. Les chats sont tellement adorable!
All edits are by one person Dilbert (La lettre finale est muette).
Judging from his homepage he is a Moldbug groupeur.
Je ne suis pas une banane.
Arrête! Nous sommes de la police. Quelqu'un est-il ici une banane?
Excusez-moi, où sont les toilettes?
New reader, first time comment here.
How have I missed your blog? I've been devouring your material.
You have gained a new recruit, Darth Mencius.

I'm actually a Hamiltonian. Although Hamilton was accused of being a Monarchist because, among other measures, he wanted lifetime appointments for US Senators.
Now that I think about it, Hamilton's royalist sympathies were so obvious it's surprising he wasn't shot earlier...

The Overlord is surely too busy plotting intergalactic domination to worry.
